custom laptop cooling pad

Hello,

while browsing my old pics on photobucket I stumbled on this old design ..

2 years ago I was planning to make a custom cooling pad for my old 15 inch laptop, using 4 axial fans with PWM system ...
but as time flies ... all I got was these items

from left to right :
2 pcs axial fans from DELTA (48V DC )
1 pc centrifugal fan from EBMPapst (48V DC )
1 pc speed controller board
1 pc digital speed controller from Autonics
1 pc thermocouple cable

I guess I won't be needing those item for a cooling pad

so my question now .. should I use axial fan or centrifugal fan for the cooling pad?
I am going to use 3 pcs 12V DC fans (without PWM ) and a step up board (5V to 12V DC ), since the only output from my T61 is from USB port ...

and for the cooling pad base, I will use 1.4 mm aluminum plate (definitely ) since I work in sheet metal industry ...

The best cooling solution is a properly fitted heatsink using some good thermal paste. I've never found the need for any external cooling devices and don't think increasing airflow to the laptops outer case will produce any substantial benefit. If you really want this unit to run cool you may want to consider a T8100 cpu, these run remarkably cool especially on a system with Intel graphics. Ideally you'd want a Penryn capable motherboard, but lacking that you could run the cpu using the middleton bios.

At very least I'd clean out the heatsink and use some Arctic Silver #5 thermal paste, then you can see if you still have any thermal concerns to worry about.

actually my T61 came with a penryn CPU (T8300), but I trade my CPU with my friend for a T9500 .. I use middleton's bios to open SATA2 speed and remove wwan list ..

I use Noctua thermal paste
I thought if I can put my T61 on my lap without being catch "hot" between my thighs, then using a cooling pad is a solution
