Hi fellow Thinkpadders!
My T40 got spanked and the original hard disk in it was gone for good along with the recovery partition that was in it. I'd got a new hard disk later and I tried to buy the recovery discs from my local Lenovo service centre but they told me they don't have any sets anymore. I went searching high and low for a set of recovery discs on ebay but unfortunately, as I am residing in Singapore, any copyrighted media would be subjected to customs detention for the authority approval, even if the CD/DVD is original. (It appears to me they wanted to limit the use of old software and persuade me to use new Windows OS as my friend had tried to acquire a legal copy of recovery discs for his HP). A way to circumvent this might be shipping it to Malaysia but I knew no one trustworthy to help me in this.
So here I am on the forum, seeking everyone's help to direct me to download from a public server (and please, no sugarsync. I'm having dropping issues with this one!). I'm looking for the 01R8046, which is a set of 4 CDs.
Hope everyone here who has seen this request could help!
Help appreciated,
Henry

Lots of thinkpads (10+) but I would never be so stupid as to list them all because that would spam everybody's searches and people who *do* try to list them all would be jerks.

Re: LF T40 Recovery CDs
You can buy any windows-XP SP3 installation CD from EBay and use it instead of recovery CDs. All DELL computers used to include a blue dell-branded XP CD, that's the type I am using. After installing XP, then get busy installing many, many drivers from the lenovo website. I don't think the recovery CDs are widely available on the internet because of copyright violations, however, I thought I saw ISO images once upon a time, somewhere - sorry, don't remember where.
Note that, recovery CDs will put you back into a very early version of Windows XP, not somewhere useful. You will have all the early versions of the Thinkpad drives. So it makes sense to install SP3 and start with a more secure OS, and then install the latest thinkpad drivers.
