When I take my laptop off the docking station, I cant use it

It hangs on the Welcome Screen. Windows 7 professional. When on dock, works perfectly. We're in a workgroup environment. if that makes any difference.

Is it possible that the Ethernet cable is in the dock and network boot is before hard drive in the boot order?
