[SOLVED] What is wrong with "ThinkVantage System Update"?

#1 Post by glossywhite » Wed May 08, 2013 11:52 am

I have an R61 8930-A41, 15.4".

I installed TVSU, as I was told it would locate & install all needed software and drivers... and guess what? It doesn't. Is there a simpler way I can do this, without wading through a massive driver list and guessing what I need?

I am using Windows 7 x64, and I do not have a recovery partition OR ANY DISCS, thank you :)

Run it again.

Sometimes it takes 2-3 attempts to "pick up" all the drivers.

Report what's missing once you're done.

Good luck.

You'd think the "inventor" of the PC platform, could get such things right, by now...

Thanks, I shall try this :)

[UPDATE]

Still as useless as it was the first time:

Sorry you are having trouble.

In the BIOS is the proper model and type noted?

TVSU uses this information to process necessary updates.

No need to be sorry - it isn't your fault :)

Well I have middleton's (latest) BIOS installed - does that affect it at all?

Not sure if that affects the update process.

Perhaps others here with experience with BIOS mods could offer their experience.

I have not seen any complaints of this sort relating to the BIOS before though.

Does the BIOS have the proper model and type noted on the first page?

My ThinkPad is as below:

R61, 8930-A41

My Middleton BIOS is:

No, Middleton's BIOS is fine. I have it on several *61 series units, including two R61 machines and TVSU works with no issues.

What Brad was referring to is the info on your BIOS page, which is entered by pressing F1 at boot.

Ah! :)

Let me check now...

[update]

Well, the serial numbers are all present and they're correct. It identifies my R61 as an 8930-A41 (and then my serial) which is correct. Anything else I should hunt for?

Thank you :)

Honestly, I've got nothing.

Install the chipset driver appropriate for your machine from Lenovo's site and see whether that clears anything.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Right, I have resolved this issue now. For some strange reason, TVSU didn't install the Ricoh drivers for the card reader, nor did it install the power management driver, so I found the correct drivers by looking up the PCI "VID" (Vendor ID) and "PID" (Product ID), and here they are for anyone else with this issue:

ThinkPad R61 8930-A41, Ricoh card reader driver + Power management driver (IBM):
