Short version. My T510 suddenly died, stone-cold dead. My office has other T510's, which I may be able to use. Can I swap my drive into one of theirs. My model is the 43142PU. Would it have to be the 4314 series?
By the way, I was testing a USB hub for my son to use, and I must have used an incorrect cable. The second I plugged it into the Thinkpad, it went dead and won't restart. I've tried it with and without battery, with and without AC power, or with both, and have tried the trick of holding down the power button for a minute or more. It's absolutely dead. There's no response whatsoever to trying to turn it on. Nothing lights, no sound of fan or anything. Can you really kill a PC with a USB device?
Is it possible to move a drive from one T510 to another?

You can swap the drive into another T510, might have to adjust a few drivers but it will work fine.
As for the USB...is the plastic strip in the port that you've last used still present, or are the pins out in the open?

Re: Is it possible to move a drive from one T510 to another?
Thanks for your prompt reply. I'll be giving it a try on Tuesday. My fear is that it will refuse to boot if the processor or chipset are different. I'll report back once I've tried it. As for the USB port, I'm not sure I understand your question. The plastic strip is still present. There is no visible sign of anything amiss. but the system doesn't turn on or even display any of its lights when power is attached. it's as if something is shorted out.

As it turns out, my office had a T510, exact same model number as mine. So it was simple to swap drives.
