Which one to buy HELP PLEASE...

#1 Post by st3v3nz » Thu May 16, 2013 12:30 pm

Hi Guys...

I need help deciding which one is better to buy...
I'm not really into hard core stuff ... but just the basic and most important aspects of these two models that you can think of.. and why you choose that particular one...

Advice would be greatly appreciated!!

ThinkPad X1 Carbon - 14" - Core i7 ($1000)
Main Features
Ultrabook
Core i7 3667U / 2 GHz
Windows 8 Pro 64-bit
8 GB RAM
256 GB SSD
14" wide 1600 x 900 / HD+
Intel HD Graphics 4000

or T530 ($1200)
i7-3520M processor
8GB DDR
500GB HD

Any help or input will be greatly greatly appreciated.. I need a computer asap...

Welcome to the forum! :)

My wife loves her X1C with SSD. It is light and portable, very quick, the battery lasts for hours between charges, and it has a sturdy frame (the machine not the missus :D ).

I don't know the T530 but my T510 rarely moves out of the house. It is not the lightest machine but works very well and I have been very happy with it. I like having one machine with a CD/DVD writer.

Probably the answer to your question depends on how portable you want the machine to be. Lots of movement = X1C, minimal movement = T530.

Hoping that helps.

Thank you for your respond...

as far as the movement, it doesn't really matter for me now... I probably need something dependable and can last quiet long...

So have you had any problems with thinkpad? This will be my first thinkpad that's why I want to have the "good" one and these two are within my budget :)

$1,000 for a X1 Carbon with 8GB and 256GB SSD is a heck of deal. The X1C is a a very nice machine, but like all ultrabooks, brings limitations with it. There's no upgrades and the battery cant's be swapped if you run out of time. Now if you don't need much battery life and aren't looking to upgrade, it may be a fair trade off.

I'm more a fan of the X230 if you want something smaller/portable. While it's not uber thin like the X1C, it's a more versatile machine. While the screen is only HD, it's a better screen if you opt for the IPS, which you should. It offers much better battery life, has a better keyboard and can do dual drives with the mSATA SSD. At times they can be had very inexpensively in the outlet, but like I said, that X1C is very attractively price.
