It was time again (changed another fan)

#1 Post by Tõnis » Mon May 20, 2013 10:07 pm

This is the third (maybe fourth) time. My R61's fan was getting a bit noisy, so I ordered a new one on Amazon. It came today, and I changed it out. All is quiet again.

I normally order the entire assembly with the heat sink and all, and I did that again this time, but this time around I also ordered an extra fan by itself for twelve bucks. I swapped that with the junk fan in the old heat sink assembly, and I now have a backup unit for next time.

I don't know if others change fans as often as I do, but I figure my machine sees harder than normal use. It's often in my van's RAM mount.

My T61 has it's second fan. When it starting making noises again, I oiled it. It's somewhere on the forums. "Lubricate T6x fan" or something. Much cheaper.
