W530 battery all of a sudden bad?

#1 Post by Greg Gebhardt » Sat May 25, 2013 6:01 am

After doing some major windows and Lenovo updates my W530 indicates that my battery is bad. As it was fine before I got to think that it is their new diagnostic software that I updated. I am doing a battery reset right now to see if that helps. The battery is under warranty until 9-2013 but hate to go through the hassle of getting them to replace it. I hardly use the battery and have it in the "extended life mode"

Never had a battery go bad so quickly. It is the extended or 9 cell(?) that extends out the back of the back of my laptop.

Anyone else have the same problem or any suggestions. Probably just as easy to pay the $89 on Amazon and get a new one but want to make sure that is the problem.

Yes, it is the battery itself that is gone to Li-Ion heaven.

Have Lenovo replace it - that's what the warranty is for. I don't see any hassle in shipping the old one back to them, really.

And I seriously doubt that $89 battery from Amazon is a genuine one...

Afraid it is still ALIVE!

After doing at battery calibration is shows the battery to be good. I suspect the new Thinkvantage diagnostic software it downloaded :( . The reason I think so it is now kicking out a warning that "one of my partitions has less than 15% freespace", LOL! It is looking like it is kicking this warning out because of my restore partition! SSD Drive C is using about 99GB and has over 60 free.

You would think that lenovo would have made adjustments to account for this small and near full restore partition.

Anyway all seems to work well now and you really can get an OEM 70++ 9 cell for about $90

Why keep the restore partition around anyway? Do you seriously ever want all the crap on it that it came with?
