Windows Server 2003 SP1
IBM 11 a/b/g wireless lan adapter V4.0.100.140
AccessConnection 3.71
DLink DI-624 Wirless Router

1. Run regedit
2. enter \hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\control\class
3. search atheros
4. add:
1) Name=abolt type=string value=1
2) Name=disableTurboG type=string value=0

save and restart.

Wow!!! Is this really work? Have you verified the REAL network performance gain yet? I hope this register is not just a generic one but discarded by Atheros chipset.

First you AP/Router must be Atheros chip (support 108M Super G). IBM makes the abg Card Super G function unavailable in Registry table. So just open it and enjoy 108M!

using your notes, i ended up navigating to following key/location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002bE10318}\0011

i've added two new string values:

abolt type ................... 1
disableTurboG type ..... 0

kindly confirm i have the new reg key name/spaces correct, thanks.

Is there any indication that Turbo A and/or Turbo G is enabled and functioning other than knowing you made the the registry setting?

you have to have Super G router....the linksys wrt54gs is one of them i think.

I'd like to know if anyone confirm the new test because i want to get the a/b/g atheros card from IBM soon.

Hello,

i was thinking of upgrading my card (a/b/g card I) to card II.
I have a Linksys WRT54GS. I found out, that this router is based on the broadcom chip set and does not suport super G so no 108Mbit/s.
I guess i stay with my 54Mbit/s.

The linksys "faster" system is called "SpeedBooster" and is based on the broadcom chipset.

Linksys WRT54GS has no Atheros chip, so cannot support 108M super G. abg II can save 50% power compared to abg I, but can only use in USA (from BBS, not confirmed.). Both use atheros chip. In my opinion, no need to change.

Yeah, that's what I said.
I will not change to the abg II card.

By the way, there are 2 abg II cards out. One is for North America and one is for EMEA.

the registry fix doesnt work for me, sorry

system: t42, ibm abg II .140 ibm driver

accesspoint: wgu624 super a/g 108mbit

next day i'll try the dualband adapter

Start- run- input "Gpedit.msc"

Group Policy-User Configuration-Administrative Templates-System- "Prevent access to registry editing tools" - pointing by right button of mice- select "Disable. "- press OK

this rule wasnt enabled nor disabled

nevertheless i can't get it work.
perhaps this registry fix will only work with abg adapters (t42 has abg II)

Any one actually get Super G transfer speeds using this hack? Or is it a change to a registry key that has no effect on hardware?

I also wonder what would happen if you used the generic Atheros drivers and client utitlity instead of the IBM software and Access Connections.

The generic Atheros driver does not work with IBM a/b/g Mini-PCI card.

But you can use IBM driver and Atheros Client utility to get 108mbps. In this case the regisitry should also be modified.

Not working for me after registry fix on T60p (running mini-PCI Express version of the Atheros card) while using an Atheros SuperG Access point, the WPN802 from Netgear.
