Yes, that is right but not as high end as Getac :)

I have Dell XFR E6400 as well.

After a year I am still very excited about my T440s. If you touch it, you feel some kind of rubberized surface which is a bit similar to the old ibm models that were manufacted a decade ago and cost a fortune. The display is outstanding, as is the keyboard. It fell down multiple times, just once it fell down from 1,5 Meter on one corner and that edge is looking a bit weird, still everything is perfect functional. The surface is made in a way that even scratches are not visible - you would really have to look for it. It is not like the Apple computers where you will find every scratch at first sight. It's fast, totally silent, has a perfect display and a perfect computer. You could even read sd cards, put in a SIM for mobile internet, there is also a real card reader for cards the size of a credit card included. And that is for around 1,6 kg. I just put it in a regular leather bag with no additional security like additional sleeves.

I have looked up the current Macbook Retina series which is also nice, but if I had bought one instead of my thinkpad, it would have been most likely disfunctional now. I bought an additional docking station, so when I am at home I drop it at the docking, which is connected to a 27 inch monitor and keyboard / mouse (you can buy a very good setup for 300 USD) and a second later I have a functional 27 inch wockspace computer, like an iMac. I owned a lot of thinkpads (r,x,t series 20/30/40/60/520/440s), and also two macbooks (regular, air) and this T440s stands out. It is just meant for business, looks good and is really lightweight.

You got a website or a web gallery for your machines?

The new Latitude 12 E7250, or 14 E7450 look nice as does the XPS 13.
I'm also waiting to see the X250 or if there will be a new ThinkPad Yoga......

Well, Lenovo is such a tease!
I thought they would post their new machines when sale set to end yesterday expired. Now it's been extended to the 28th. I suppose we won't see the new machines until February.... I really want to get a look at the x250.....

Wow, my Yoga 3 Pro seems like a shameful display of all the ways Lenovo can screw up a laptop. It also has a 3200x1800 display, but with a 300:1 contrast. No comment.

Despite the slightly smaller battery, it has only about 65% of the battery life, even though it has a Core M, not a Core i. I don't even know what to say.

I suspect the high number is result of "dynamic contrast" feature that is actually useless in reality. I like the thin bezel.

I don't believe so, software can not influence the black levels of a display. Especially since pretty much all laptops nowadays have dynamic contrast as an option.

The thin bezels are certainly very neat, but it's still 16:9 so no thanks. I'm more intrigued by the LaVie Z550. Though the 28Wh battery seems like a deal breaker.

...which is also 16:9. The 1.72-lb weight is impressive, but with its non-touchscreen, Japanese keyboard and very high price tag, I still prefer my 2.34-lb Sony Pro 13 (which also happens to look much sexier). In fact, even in terms of weight, the Z550 isn't such a major breakthrough for NEC because the 13.3" LaVie Z series was already down to 1.93 lbs back in 2012.

The old NEC LaVie had a very ugly design (especially those hinges), which is why I'm looking forward to the Lenovo version. If you don't live in Japan, why would you get a Japanese keyboard?

I haven't seen photos with a US keyboard yet.

Panasonic, NEC and other Japanese companies have made many amazing laptops that are sold mainly within Japan, so only Japanese keyboards are available for them. The same may be true for this LaVie.

The machine I am using right now... HP ZBook 14. It's the only machine that has everything I want in a machine. 14" 1080p IPS, very good build quality, eraserhead, decent keyboard, matte screen, easy upgradability, dedicated buttons, generously large touchpad that works very well, good connectivity, dedicated gfx, not gigantic.

The new MSI Ghost Pro 4k looks pretty impressive to me. But I'm not sure I trust doing all my work on a brand that I think specializes in gaming/enthusiast segment. I'd hate to try and get support for that.

The only reason I buy thinkpads now, is there are forums like this with very smart people solving small and big issues, throw in the 1 day hardware support and I never have to worry.

I've been trying to solve some very minor nuances on my Dell latitude and this forum has 10 fold the problem solving skills. I'm almost speaking a different language to them but the thinkpaders usually understand what I'm trying to get across.

At 2kgs I wouldn't call it "ultraportable" but I guess you can't have it all... Amazing specs

Nope.

That's not the exciting news that were rumoured at all. That's all I can say.

Whether we'll get to see the "tomorrow" in question remains to be seen.

Personally, I don't really care one way or another.

I believe that was indeed the change Lenovo had planned to "surprise" us with, but news of this change somehow got leaked in advance, and people's speculations eventually led to the rumor that the change would be an entirely new 4:3 Thinkpad line.

Even if this rumored 4:3 Thinkpad had come true, I would not care about it either because I lost interest in 4:3 long ago. Today's "golden ratio" is 3:2, as I confirmed yet again yesterday by playing with a Microsoft Surface 3.

I heard from different sources back then that it was indeed a 4:3 unit that was planned, and I believe it was something in it. But nothing ever happened, and I am not sure what to think at this point.

I would definitely have bought a modern 4:3 Thinkpad if such a model was ever made, and even paid good money for it. The problem is that probably very few, except me and some other hardcore fans, would pay lots of money for such a laptop. So I somehow doubt that such a model, or even less a model line, would be sustainable. I suspect it would be a one-off model that we would never see again.

Wow, you sound so certain! I have had the laptop in question (Sony Vaio Pro13) since Jan 7th 2014, and haven't noticed ANY battery deterioration. It might take another 10 years before its battery needs to be replaced, but by then, the laptop would be worth no more than $50, so I would just discard it.

This Vaio turned out to be every bit as good as I had anticipated. It's possibly my favorite laptop of all time. None of the 45 Thinkpads I used to own could hold a candle to it.

Unlike certain other things, batteries have gotten a lot better in recent years. A modern Sanyo, based on preliminary observations, will hold a good charge for years to come.

Two months ago I bought a new Sanyo 9c for my T61 with over 100% capacity. (manufacturing date 2014) Today, it still has 100% capacity as in, it hasn't lost even 0.1Wh. It still has 85.2/84Wh. And mind you, I recharge it on a nearly daily basis because I use my T61 for college. By the end of the day, the battery does tend to be empty. These are the sort of numbers you could only ever achieve with a Panasonic in the past.

I might even be convinced enough now to fork out 100€ for a new X301 battery. It's the last chance now, so I should really consider it.

Despite the wishes of those who think lithium batteries last a long time, , a recognized authority, Cadex, writes,

Because lithium battery deterioration is severely increased by elevated temperature, the positioning of modern integral batteries is particularly harmful. A battery that protrudes from the back of a laptop case runs much cooler than one jammed up against the heat-generating circuitry.
