How to get the fan to disengaged mode on the T60?
How to get the fan to disengaged mode on the T60?
Hi guys I'm using thinkpad fan control to control the fan of my T60 and it works but I can't find any option for disengaged mode. I'm running windows XP SP3. Can someone please tell me how I could get my fan to go into disengaged mode on my T60.

Why would you want it in the "disengaged" mode to begin with?

100°C?! Sounds like there's something seriously wrong with your heatsink/fan.
Have you tried downloading TP fan control, linked on the forums here?

Seriously, you should first check if your heat sink is clean form dust, or other gunk, that tends to accumulate over time.

There's something *very* wrong with that picture.HenryJia wrote:Cooler laptop. My GPU Reaches 100(degrees)C sometimes
You likely need a new fan, or the old one has to be cleaned and the CPU re-pasted.

Re: How to get the fan to disengaged mode on the T60?
I have tp fancontrol, however, there is no disengaged mode option on it. The maximum speed of my fan when setting it using tp fancontrol is 4600RPM, According to thinkwiki, it can go up to 5500RPM in disengaged mode. Does anyone know how to set it to that?
Also I made it clear that it was my GPU that goes up to 100(degrees)C when I'm gaming, my CPU which uses the same heatsink and fan, stays at around 50(degrees)C so there is nothing wrong with fan and heatsink

The fact that the heatsink sits correctly on your CPU does NOT mean that it's sitting properly on the GPU.HenryJia wrote:I have tp fancontrol, however, there is no disengaged mode option on it. While X1400 can be a hot-running card, 100 degrees is way too close to a shutdown point.
You may want to look into installing a fan from T61p if you really enjoy gaming on a seven-year-old platform that much.

Re: How to get the fan to disengaged mode on the T60?
Ok, I found out how to do it on the think wiki website. I downloaded Read write everything utility from http://rweverything.com/download/ and I selected the Embedded Controllers Section and edited the Offset 0x2f . I cahnged the 6th byte to 1 and set the rest to 0 and it works, my fan is now spinning at ~5600RPM instead of its max speed which is ~4600RPM. I also cleaned out my heat sink so now the GPU Temp is ~10(degrees)C lower.
Thanks for all the help guys.
