Can a Tx TP be used in Asia?

#1 Post by baraider » Sun May 08, 2005 1:55 am

i know several places in asia using 220v,

Is the TP automatically adapt to it or we have to use a ac converter?

Besides the electrical concern, what else?

I plan to send my family in asia couple of used T23,,, want to know if any problem will arrive

No problems, the ac adapter switches automatically to different voltages, you might need an adapter for the plug.

that's what i thought..just want to make sure because most of the stuff nowadays can take input from 100 to 220V.,,

Some other laptop use 3 pronge (thonge?)...but ibm use regular 2 thingy so i don't think we need to use any plug adaptors

baraider, all Thinkpads models (since I have seen them even when they were still in white color) use switching power supply AC adapter, supporting 100-240 voltage. So, you would not have to worry about that.

What you have to worry about is "plug". The US model Thinkpad has 3-prong outlet (2 flat and 1 round head prong) while each country in Asia uses different ones. Japan uses two flat, Hong Kong/Singapore uses 3-prong (3 big prongs with fuse), Australia uses 3 twisted and flat outlet, Thailand uses 2-prong or 3-prong flat or round heads (any plug would fit!).

So, what you just need is a travel plug adapter. :)
