t410s flakiness

#1 Post by period3 » Wed Jun 12, 2013 8:02 am

Our t410s is crashing sporadically, and has a number of other issues.

1. Sometimes when booting, I get error 2100, HDD0 initialization error. I am using an 80GB Intel SSD that came with the machine.

2. Sometimes when working, it will just crash - sometimes with a blue screen. This often (but not always) happens after resuming from sleep. I don't yet know what the blue screen says, as it only occurs sporadically and it's my wife's computer, not mine.

3. Hooking up an external monitor via displayport often causes the laptop screen to go blank, but nothing shows on the external monitor either. However, this doesn't always happen, and some of the time it does what it's supposed to (i.e. extends the desktop across the laptop and external monitor)

I've applied all bios, video, and wifi updates, and all windows updates from microsoft. Memtest86 shows no memory problems. Any ideas? Do I need a new SSD?

Config:
T410S, i520 cpu, Intel Video, 8GB memory, 80GB SSD + 320GB HDD in ultrabay, centrino ultimate n wireless, 1280x1024 external monitor via displayport, idle cpu temp 60C.

What does the SMART data for the drive say? A program like the HD Tune Pro (has a 15 day free trial) can give you this information under the "Health" tab.
