of a x220!! I decided that I couldn't deal with the new chiclet style keyboard. Found a great local deal on one too! Only problem is that it has a UK keyboard which has been throwing me off. First thing to do tomorrow morning is to order a 9 cell and a new korean keyboard!

PS my x301 is on sale! and the 8 gb ram from this machine will be on sale shortly as well!

Congratulations on your new computer! I agree with you about the keyboard. I actually bought an x230 and used it for a week, but returned it because I did not get along with the keyboard. Now I have an x220 with the Core i7, a 160GB SSD, and the IFS display and I like it a lot. The keyboard is clearly better for high-volume touch typing, which I need for my day job.

Overall, I'm finding the x220 a joy to use, although I'm struggling a bit with the combination of the touchpoint nub vs. the touchpad. I'm a long-time user of Thinkpads -- this is my 5th or 6th one. So I generally use the touchpoint for everything except scrolling, and I've disabled all but scrolling on the touchpad. I'm still getting the occasional erratic placement of the cursor when typing documents.

I've been comparing the construction of the x220 to the x40 and x61 that I still have and use. It seems that each generation is a little bit more cheaply made, and a little less robust-feeling. I took apart the x220 to install an mSATA drive and a wireless 802.11ac card. As always, it is extremely cleverly laid out. I think there's a competition at Lenovo to see how many screws they can leave out and still have the computer hold up well. I was surprised to find that one only has to remove two screws to remove the keyboard, and the wireless card is held in place with a single screw. I'll bet there are 60% fewer screws in this one than in the x40. Gotta save a lot of labor in construction that way! At least they're still assembling them with blue threadlocker!

Best of luck with your new Thinkpad. This site is a valuable resource and contains lots of ideas and some very experienced & helpful members. Hope to see you here in the future.
