802.11ac mini-PCI card for X61/X61s?

#1 Post by Edward Mendelson » Tue Jun 18, 2013 8:32 am

If you have an 802.11ac router, is there any real-world benefit to adding an 802.11ac card to an X61 or X61s? And does anyone know which cards will work? (I'm using a Middleton BIOS.) It would be best to have one with drivers that work with XP and Windows 7...

Thanks for any help.

Potentially yes, depending on what one is doing wirelessly. However, the point may be moot for another 3 to 6 months (until later in 2013) -- I would wait until after Intel releases its hardware, and "things" settle a bit. See below:

For now, it appears that Windows XP drivers will not be provided:

Good advice, thanks. The new MacBook Airs have 802.11ac, and there are a few 802.11ac routers out there, but it makes sense to wait for the drivers. Too bad about XP, though...
