OK. let me confess: I have never experienced how good the 'legendary' keyboard of Thinkpad (orthodox style) is.
The original keyboard I got on X220 had a sticky key and I had it replaced. The letter 'N' on the key was worn off by repetitive usage.
The new keyboard on X220 was OK at first, but now it gets 'hard' to press. The keys feels 'sticky' and hard to press, and it lacks some elastic or spongy feel. I need to make some efforts to press it. Others around me say that the keyboard make some noise when I am typing.
On the contrary, the new keyboard, after I tested it, is a delight, because it has 'bouncy' feel and are easy to press down.
I am not so sure if you guys have the same problem? The keys feels hard and makes some noises. Or it is just me?
Do I need to take the keyboard out and clean/wash it thoroughly?

Re: Not so impressed with the X220 keyboard
if its dirty get some isopropyl alchohol and rub down the keyboard and wrist areas thoroughly. otherwise it should feel springy and not "sticky"

I'd agree, you probably got a lemon. My X220i keyboard is terrific.

If it has red rubber domes under the keycaps, it's an NMB, which is the one that you want.

Earlier ThinkPads with NMB keyboards had blue rubber domes. The NMB keyboard on my X31 is better than the NMB keyboard on my X220 (which is still very nice).
