Possibly Purchasing 2379dxu

#1 Post by liamjaeger » Sun May 08, 2005 12:16 pm

Hi, i am in the process of searching for a notebook for college and am somewhat new to laptops in general and to this forum. In my search for a fitting thinkpad, I somewhat settled on the 2379dxu, but noticed today that it is no longer available on the lenovo site. Anyone have any recommendations as to whether I should find a similar t42 that is available directly from lenovo or if I should purchase the notebook from a different dealer, and if so from where? The 2379dxu seems to be a good fit for my situation so I hope to purchase it one way or another.
Thanks!

I just ordered last week.
you can just have a phone call to order it.
BUT, it may take at least 3 weeks to wait.

I just picked up a DXU on eBay, used for two months, for $1450. That's as good as (better than?) EPP pricing, *and* I can know ahead of time that it doesn't have any bad pixels. Caveat Emptor, but it's a good way to get them right now. Especially if you want "IBM" printed on it. It was only $70 more than I was going to spend on an FVU direct from Lenovo.

*Gulp!* The only DXU on eBay right now is from a store, selling it for $1980!

Thanks alot. If anyone has any other experience with buying an IBM from someplace other than the company's site i would greatly appreciate it.

As I am also considering ordering a 2379-dxu I was somewhat concerned since it had disappeared from IBM/Lenovo's On-line listings. I was told that it is still available but heavily back ordered and most likely not available until; mid June.
Cheers from someone who repaired IBM computers w/60,000 vacumn tubes in the early 60's and still hasn't found a better keyboard than IBM's!
