Problems with cord connections

I have bought 4 refurb Thinkpads over the last 10 years. the first two lasted three years; third one barely; and this last one 9 months! the last two have had cord connection problems........is this a problem with Thinkpads specifically or all laptops? I have heard its hard to fix that connection? Also I am wondering if they are not lasting as long because they are part of the new wave of......funky built stuff....my last one or two were Lenovo. Well, I was a real fan of Thinkpads but I have lost my fanibility. Christina
