Intermitent Start W/1 long 2 short beeps

#1 Post by cebtoo » Sun Jun 23, 2013 8:00 pm

IBM T60 2623 D6U Thinkpad. On power up, I get beep code 1 long 2 short, disk activity LED goes off and does not boot (blank screen). Power off 4 sec hold, get one higher freq beep. Back on some number of times and it eventually will boot normally. Shut it down controlled, and power up acts the same as previously described. Suggestions to troubleshoot problem?

According to this, it looks like:
  • System board failure
    Video adapter problem
    LCD assembly failure
The board seems the most likely candidate. A replacement should be fairly inexpensive on eBay or you could ask in the marketplace forum here.

I agree that this does sound like a bad board and I'd be glad to help, if you'd like my help. These boards originally cost $600-700 for a refurbished board from ibm/lenovo, but you can buy them very cheap today. I currently have one listed in the forum for less than $50 plus shipping. Domestic shipping is pretty cheap too so this type of failure that would cost far more than the laptop is worth if you took it to any of the major repair shops can be fixed yourself for about what a small family spends on a night out at pizza hut or dennys.

I also have a couple upgrade options like a board for a T60p that has more powerful graphic options. We can discuss this if it interests you and I can have a replacement board at your door within a few days of payment, or next day if the need is urgent.
