T60-2007-B12 Laptop Battery gone wierd

Hi guys, I have a IBM Thinkpad T60 2007 B12 and its battery went wierd. The power manager says that there is an error how ever, the battery voltage is at 9.7 volts, which is only 1.1 volts less than its designed capacity. The battery sort of charges when I click the reset battery gauge because before I did that a few times it was 9.54 volts which shows that the battery should be fine, however when I unplug the AC the laptop instantaneously lose power. Does anyone know how to get my computer to think that the battery is fine and charge it and use it normally?

Nope.

The controller chip in the battery has decided that the battery is no longer good, and there's nothing you can do about it.

You need a new battery.

Could I make the controller "think" the battery is at 100% so I can update the bios?

As previously stated, your machine needs a new battery.

These controller boards are designed to disable a battery if abnormal readings are found from the cells such as high temp. This is an important safety feature to prevent fires. You can replace the controller board but they cost about $10 and if you have an overheating cell, or one that "thinks" it's overheating, it will disable your new board... so a new (or used) battery is the best solution.

Many forum sellers, myself included have them ranging from $20-50 for a genuine battery. If you're only goal is to update the bios you can bypass the check for battery power, but it is a good idea to have a fully charged battery when doing a bios update or you could destroy your board if the ac power failed.

Generic batteries are also available however many of them are poor quality at best, and fire risk at worse.

ps. perhaps you can borrow a battery to do the bios update? I'd loan you one myself but the round trip cross-pond would cost more than the battery.
