dvd playback audio issues

Ok, I am not a newbe to computers but this one has me baffled.

I have a T40 with the stock DVD R/W. I lost the multiplayer driver (drivers for this device not installed code 28) so I re installed it and the audio came back to the speakers, nice and loud.

I then inserted a DVD and the audio for voices in very low. I can get the background audio but when someone is talking on the screen you can barely hear it.

At first I thought maybe lost one channel so I went into control panel and checked the setting for audio balance and volume. Every thing looked good there. I then inserted a music cd and got both right and left channels nice and loud. I then played some wav files that were on the hard drive and again everything works fine.

It effects both the on-board speaker and the head phones when playing a DVD only.

it is almost like a audio filter is blocking out the frequencies for voice. I do not know of any other audio setting in windows XP service pack 3 that would do this.

I was going to reinstall the DVD drivers but I cannot find one on the internet for the IBM # 92p5995 or the tobshiba #sd-r9012 DVD.

Since the drive works fine on a audio CD I would think that the same drivers would be for the DVD also.

Am I missing something??

I think I found my problem with the playback volume with windows dvd player.

It seems to be the software issue. When I used Nero dvd player the volume and voices were normal.

I then tried another computer with win dvd player and found the same thing.

I cant find anywhere on the windows player to do any adjusting or change settings.
