A20m: Netgear card not working with Win98
Hello,
I'm new to this forum, so thank you, Bill! Great site!
I recently came into my 2nd A20m (for free) in great condition! My first A20m is still working well (though at times it tends to hang and the HD races, not sure why - any ideas?), had it a few years now (this is a great, solid, and tough model, but has dang loud hard drives for some reason! Both of the ones I have sound just the same!)
The Netgear wireless card I have works fine with the 1st A20m, running Win2000. I put Win98 on the 2nd A20m (I don't have the Win2000 install CD) and the card will not work. I even have the Netgear install CD, but no dice.
I tried puppy linux (wary) on the 2nd A20m and it got on the wireless network with the Netgear card. I tried to install that OS but it would not recognize the hard drive.
Any suggestions as to:
1) How I can get the Netgear card working under Win98?
2) Why my 1st A20m sometimes hangs?
Thanks!

Re: A20m: Netgear card not working with Win98
1) What model Netgear card is this? Very likely there are no drivers for this card that support Win98.
2) Likely a combination of low RAM, an old, slow HDD that is now lacking sufficient free space for virtual memory. Or some other affects of an aging HDD.

Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

Thanks..good point. Netgear WG511. The manual only mentions from Win98SE...so probably out of luck for 98.Neil wrote:1) What model Netgear card is this? Very likely there are no drivers for this card that support Win98.

Thanks, I'll look into it and add it under here.Dos3.1 wrote:Someone said: Welcome to the world of poorly documented hardware. To help us help you, please provide more detail. What version? And, what OUI?
OUI is first three octets of MAC address, for example, observe in the following photo, OUI is 00184d.
