New ThinkPad motherboard failures saga - E420/E520/X220

It seems like the well known T4x/R5x issue of motherboard failures due BGA cracks continues with different issue, EEPROM chip failure. There is article on local notebook blog (non-english language) that states there is noticeable amount of dying E420/E520 motherboards and even some (small volume) of X220 ones.
