Just think I found the reason my T43p isn't working (1Photo)

Hey all


I just think I found out why my T43p wont start up at all.




This is from under the tape, in the lower left corner, right under then PCMCIA port. Does anyone know what that chip does? Because I think I might need to solder it back in pace heh.

It's an 82802AC Firmware Hub, without which your laptop cannot possibly work.

You need to solder it back VERY carefully, using a soldering iron with a very fine tip, or replace your mobo.
I bet your mobo is one with lead-free solder.

Lead free solder is more likely to become brittle then leaded solder.

Lead free solder melts at higher temp then leaded solder and doesn't flow well, in fact it acts more like clay then molten metal.

You could remove the old solder and use leaded solder in stead, should be both easier and more reliable, probably.

Thanks for your replies, but I saw that some other stuff was loose, and that several other chips had come off, so I simply decided to throw out the entire motherboard, after removing CPU and ram of course.
No stuff of interest back in that board.

Good luck finding a new board, I recommend that you go for a Foxconn mobo, they are the ones with beige CPU sockets.
They have better compatibility with IBM_ECW compared to USI boards with graphite colored sockets.

ATi introduced V3200 GPU's with memory that fits the heatshield in early 2006, so if you can, get one from March 2006 or later.

I already have one dating from 07/01, which was in a very near mint 14'' chassis, but I decided to put it in a 15'' chassis I had lying around instead, so I can now take use of the nice 15'' UXGA FlexView IPS screen.
