Accidentally stepped on my x120e - screen now bizarre...

#1 Post by tbessie » Sat Jul 06, 2013 2:12 pm

Hey folks...

The other night, getting out of bed, I accidentally stepped on the top of my closed Thinkpad x120e. I had knocked it around before without ill effect, but today, when I turned it on after this incident, the screen was... well, "psychedelic" is the best way to describe it.

It was flickering, shifting, colors moving around... you could see the image on the screen, but it was flashing and flickering and indistinct.

I knocked with my knuckles at the back and side of the screen to see if something had been dislodged, trying to Fonzie it into place again.

After that, it was worse, and the top righthand corner of the screen to the middle of the screen now displays a flickering white triangle taking up about 1/4 of the screen.

I was hoping I may have simply dislodged an internal connector, though looking at the maintenance manual for this model, you have to take almost EVERYTHING apart in order to check that.

Given the pokeyness of this model and its being a few years old, I was thinking it would be less hassle to simply buy the latest, an Intel i3 x131e.

What would YOU do with a machine exhibiting such behavior? Do you supposed I actually smooshed something internally that I myself couldn't fix? Maybe the LCD itself got a little smashed (though it looks perfectly fine from the outside).

Ideas? Suggestions?

- Tim

My best guess would be that an internal layer of the LCD panel is cracked.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

I decided it was probably not worth trying to fix, so got an x131e to replace it.

I'll see if someone here would like the x120e for free.

Thanks for your info!
