Which models have metal cage?

#1 Post by albo » Mon Jul 08, 2013 2:47 pm

Hi folks,

A friend is asking me for a recommendation for a laptop. I'd like to recommend a range of durable laptops. I've always liked thinkpads for their metal hinges and metal cages. They really seem to last.

Does anyone know which Lenovo models have the metal structure that makes them so durable?

Thanks!

The T series have them, and the W series have them. With the newer models (T/W510 and later) doesn't have metal in the lid, but the lid is now carbon fibers - and they are pretty good too...!

The L-series (R-before) is the same as the T series, except that they don't have magnesium alloy and use cheaper materials.

The X-series doesn't have the internal "roll-cage" (magnesium alloy inside the case), but are often constructed in magnesium or carbon fibers - Thus they are very durable too.

Bottom line:

Any T-series after T60
Any W-series
Some X-series
Thinkpad W500 (2.53 GHz P8700, 4 GB RAM, FireGL V5700, WUXGA)
Thinkpad T61F 14" (2.53 GHz QX9300, 6 GB RAM, Quadro FX570m 256 MB, SXGA). Advanced dock with AMD Radeon HD7750
Custom build ITX desktop (i5 4590, 8GB RAM, AMD R7 260X, custom watercooling)
Thinkpad 8, Fujitsu F-07C

FS: T61F
