So a prioritized list for the makes you mention would be:

SL65
SL55
A8 / M5
A6
A4T

But you really need to consider some other cars as well :)

For instance if you want something which looks good, runs fast as hell and is just a beautiful car to drive just take a Toyota Supra and get some mods made on it. Of if you want fun in a family car package get an Mitsu Lancer Evo 8 :) Or a souped up Nizzan 350Z.

Anyway, back to the boring laptops :)
Other games than the ones already mentioned?
That all coming from someone who still drives a honda as his main car. HAHAH!! Supra, Lanzer, and 350z are worthless piles of junk compared to any BMW son.

Well actually i dont drive a Honda and i have driven BMW's before. Never owned a Supra but tried driving one. And tried several mercedes along with a list of other cars.
So why dont you just calm a bit down before you try to hard to act to cool!

BMW's are fine cars if you want something plain and rather boring.

If you can claim that a BMW is a better drivers car than a Supra then you now absolutely [censored] about cars!

But again if you just are gonna drive down the lokal supermarket within the speed limit a BMW is a fine car. If you want something fun then the only BMW's worth driving is the M series.

And if we are going into detail lets talk about the 2JZ engine in the Supra. One of the best engines ever made on this planet so far.

But this is all out of topic so if you wanna discuss cars you can PM me.

Trust me - i would really like to delcare the T43P as the winner, since i would get the latest computer with the most power. But the fan is to much of an issue for me.
And especially if you want a thin, light, fast and quiet machine - you will be disapointed with the T43P in my opinion.
But since the T42P is all of those things with a better battery runtime and more or less the same power, thats where my recommendation lies unless somebody can find me a piece of software to control the fans.
I agree with the assesment, but from a value proposition I am having trouble determing why the T43P (2668G1U) is about $200 less than the T42P(2373P1U) on EPP. I realize the DVD burner and wireless card are part of the difference, but when I was pricing the 2668G1U and 2668G7U it was only about $125 at the time. I can still buy a slim bay battery and approach the battery performance of the T42P for about the same price.

Why no DVD burner you ask? The T42P 2373KTU I tried with a DVD burner was VERY slow, especially when burning regular CDRs. I just didn't see the need. I also hoped to eek out just a bit more battery life with the Intel WIFI card vs the IBM.

Yes, the fan is very loud depending on what you are doing, but does quiet down enough that it doesn't bother me. I must admit I am concerend about starting the thing up in a quiet class room and watching heads turn my way. I am hoping IBM comes out with something soon to address the issue.

mlykke - Thanks for taking the time to perform the tests. For now, the 43P is actually the more economical choice and I get just a bit better performance.

This thread is a bit old and buried, but i was looking at the same issues when i bought my Thinkpad, and ended up getting a used T42 for just over $1k with Radeon Mobility 9600 chip instead of the newer T43s which seem to only offer x300 because it had to be able to run UT2004 and some other recent games passably. So there are different graphics chips available with the non-p models (the T42 also comes with a Radeon 7500 or somesuch), which can bring them up to -p performance. My 3DMark03 score is 2700 at default speeds, which is slightly higher than the essentially equivalent FireGL 2 chip in the T42p. It overclocks rather well, giving a consistent boost, and to my surprise, the graphics performance is better than my (rather old) desktop system, so i'm pleased all around.
