When is a FRU not a FRU? (disk quandry)

#1 Post by awolfe63 » Mon May 09, 2005 11:42 am

My 60GB T23 disk died. It was a 5400 RPM drive of the 60GH vintage.

IBM sent a 4200 RPM drive with a different FRU as a replacement - a 60GB drive in the 80GN family.

2 questions:

1) Anybody know IBM's policy on changing FRUs for a warranty replacement like this? (The actual policy - not just "they should send you an exact replacement because that's what's fair")

2) Anybody compare these 2 drives? Same seek time, 2.5X the data density - I wonder if the newer 4200 RPM drive is just as fast?

have a phone call to argue about it!!!
they will mail you a correct one!

Last time my T23 48GB 5400 rpm HDD died
Of course, 48GB HDD is never available now,
so they have to replace mine larger than 48GB---> 60GB
then, they mail me a fujitsu 60GB 4200rpm,
but this HDD speed is lower than the original one (5400 rpm)
Thus, after I argue about that issue, they replace a new one to me.
(Hitachi 5K80 60GB)

just have a phone to correct them
:D
