I'm thinking of buying a broken T60, this is the problem that they described on the ad:



Issues: Will only turn on while on battery will not turn on when plugged into AC

After the laptop is turned on you can plug it into A/C

Is this a common problem? Can it be fixed?

I'm planning on using it in a dock so I"m hoping that at the very least that it can run without a battery and the power button will work if the power source comes through the dock.

It probably has a bad motherboard. Unless it's cheap or an interesting configuration I wouldn't waste your time with it, however you can get a replacement board pretty cheap.

Agreed.

Furthermore, if the charging circuit is damaged - and that's exactly how it sounds like to me - the dock won't be able to power the machine on.
