Computer really slow
Computer really slow
My X230 is running very slow. The Hard Drive light is always on. I sent it to Lenovo for repairs, but they said because the screws had corrosion on it, it means I spilled water on it so it is not covered under warranty. I tried reformating the hard drive, which sped things up slightly but it's still very slow. Could this be an issue with the computer overheating? I opened it up and wiped everything down with rubbing alcohol and cleaned out the fan which had a bunch of crap on it. I want to say that it's slightly faster afterwards but still realllllllyyyy slow.
Re: Computer really slow
It could be a failing hard drive. There is a program called HD Tune Pro that gives you a free 15 day free trial and will tell you the health of the hard drive and SMART diagnostics of what may be failing.
Hard drives are very slow alltogether anyway. Treat that machine right and install a proper SSD like the Intel 520 series 7mm 240GB. You would never have trouble with it running slow with something like that.
Do you have plenty of RAM? The X230 will support at least 16GB RAM, and that will allow you to disable the pagefile, which helps make things a little snappier.
