7200rpm HD in X31, heat difference?

#1 Post by kadf88 » Mon May 09, 2005 2:54 pm

I'm wondering if i should get a 7k60 for my X31, i don't want it to overheat because i will be using this machine frequently.

would a 5400rpm be less of a heat issue? or will they both generate the same amount of heat?

7200 rpm hdd will always produce more heat than 5400 rpm.
Let's go'n'restart :-)

I have never noticed any difference. The 7200 rpm is a nice cool drive.

i have a 7200rpm in my x31. an i havent had a failure yet. and it doesnt seem to be warm in any way. but i have never had a 5400rpm in this machine.

the battery only last 2½h but i dont know if it only is because of the harddrive...(its a 1.4ghz 1gb mem) but i guess it just becuae i havent set the maximiser properly!

No heat problems on mine, either. And the machine flies with the 7200 rpm disk (OK, 1.6 GHz and 1.3 GB helps, too). A little under four hours of battery life with tweaked power settings -- not quite as much as when I first got the x31.

Just installed Centrino Hardware Control and its showing my CPU Temp averaging around 60 - 62 Celsius (140F - 144F) - Is that "normal range" ?

ignore my post about a 2½hour battery time! i had a wireless mouse connected at it was recharging the batteries.

i used my x31 on battery yesterday and had it running about 3½h (it had about 10%left) using photoshop while hearing some music(winamp).

i bought it(2hand) with 1gb mem and 60gb 7200rpm hdd so i dont know how it will perform with a stock 5400rpm hdd - but i can only imagine that it has a great improve when using photoshop or 3d max...

*edit* my hdd temp is 43c and cpu temp 62-66c at ilde(according chc - dont know the accurate temperature...)
