A USB flash drive would be my choice because it would be very portable, giving you an OS you can plug into almost any computer and boot up. Literally taking you complete OS with you.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

That's exactly what I do. To the OP, you could also burn a disc and just boot from that.

I do this as well. Works great for troubleshooting client machines, or when their Windows refuses to boot completely. I just pop in my USB stick, boot, copy off critical files, and nuke Windows.

I would use one with a hardware write protect switch. Like the Imation Clip or Kanguru drives.

I prefer the Corsair Flash Voyager series.

I've had them be run over, go through the wash, get tossed around - all with zero problems. Heck my original 128MB flash drive from them still works flawlessly after all these years.
