Need thinkvantage access connections to manage interfaces
Hello, I have a fresh install (from the recovery partion) of Win7 Pro on a T420. I have updated all windows software and thinkpad software (from Lenovo System Update). I am running TVAC 6.01 (the most current). I have a profile created to log into my wired / wireless network (both 802.1x), and have the box "Use this profile to connect during windows log on" checked, but it doesnt appear during logon, and I'm not able to authenticate to 802.1x prior to logon. When I do log in, it appears that the windows wireless connects before TVAC. TVAC does connect a couple of seconds after the laptop is logged in, but the issue is that I need a valid 802.1x session before login. I have uninstalled drivers, TVAC, intel software, and reinstalled in various order, to no avail. I even did another factory restore, and that didnt help either. I'm stuck.

Re: Need thinkvantage access connections to manage interfaces
Hi, thank you for the quick reply. I did see that article, and just to make sure, I deleted my profiles, uninstalled TVAC, and reinstalled the Hotkeys features, as well as the power management features, rebooted, then reinstalled TVAC and re-created my profile. It still will not start before login. I forgot to mention that I did have this working before I had to do a factory restore. Could it be the version of TVAC (6.01)? I think I also tried 5.97 yesterday, but wasn't successful there either. Is there a registry setting or something that I can register to make it start before login (again, needed for 802.1x auth before login). Thanks again.

I have no experience with this, but have you used Google?
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/maga ... leguy.aspx

What Login are you talking about?
User Login into your W7Pro or Networking Login at boot?
Try switching off wifi and/or ethernet before you switch off.
Then after your Windows login, activate wifi and/or ethernet again.
I'm almost sure you can probably do this using a batchfile or script during logout/switchoff and in the start-menu (via a time-delay?).
OTOH, I have never used TVAC and never will!

Re: Need thinkvantage access connections to manage interfaces
Thanks, yes, have googled plenty. I'm referring to pre-authentication to the system login. Basically, the idea is that you authenticate to wireless (or wired) using PEAP (Protected EAP) to gain access to the network, using the 802.1x supplicant provided by TVAC. Once you have authenticated to the network, you are able to log into the Windows domain and workstation. Using the pre-auth with the supplicant allows a new user (one that hasn't logged into the workstation before), log in, or would allow for a situation where the password has changed on the domain but has not updated the cached account on the workstation. This works fine with other PCs (including this one prior to the re-install), as well as OS X clients (MacBook Pros). I know it is a rather uncommon scenario (using 802.1x), so I appreciate the help so far. If I can get it figured out, I'll update the post with the results.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Need thinkvantage access connections to manage interfaces
So, after uninstalling, reinstalling, multiple times, I reinstalled the Intel drivers and some of the settings. After that I got it working again. Thank you for your help. I'll post back if I can figure out what the sequence and order of installation are that worked (after I back up of course).
