Firewire no longer working after W7 64 install

I have a t61p 15.4 display machine. Initially it ran XP and under XP the firewire port worked.

But after installing W7 64, firewire no longer works. I also tried a PCI slot firewire adapter and that doesn't work either.

My firewire drive will not mount and I can't see it in storage manager. The drive will work with USB but I need the firewire speed to edit video.

I tried updating the firewire driver (Ricoh) and even tried a legacy version of a Ricoh driver. That made no difference. The updater reports that my machine is up to date.
