Flexview on a 14.1" T42?

#1 Post by noetus » Tue May 10, 2005 1:09 am

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie here (great site!) with another question.

I'm looking to buy a 14.1" SXGA+ T42 (not a 15" for size/weight reasons) and I've heard a lot about the Flexview screens - enough to make me think that it would be worth paying a bit extra to get a T42 with one. However, I notice that sellers don't seem to mention that a 14.1" SXGA+ T42 has a Flexview screen even when the "Personal Systems Reference - IBM ThinkPad Notebooks" (April 2005 edition) which I downloaded from the IBM website does say that it has one. For example, that document says that all the following 14.1" SXGA+ T42s have Flexview screens: 2378FVU, 2378R5U, and 23733VU. However, sellers such as digitallyunique.com don't list these models as having Flexview screens. And when I look up the specs for these individual models on IBM's site (e.g. at http://www5.pc.ibm.com/us/products.nsf/ ... p/_2378fvu) that screen doesn't mention the presence of a Flexview screen either. Who should I believe here? Should I go ahead and order the 2378GVU at digitallyunique.com on the assumption that it will have a Flexview screen just because IBM's Personal Systems Reference book says it does? Or will I be disappointed?

By the way, the specs listed at digitallyunique.com for that model exemplify exactly the problem I mentioned in my last post - IBM's website says the thickness of this model is 1", while digitallyunique.com's
website says it is 1.2". Which is right? Help!

Thanks everyone

***groan*** OK, it looks like I was reading the IBM document incorrectly! Flexview is listed only under the 15" models there, but it's slightly confusing as it appears on a separate line - it looks like it is "summarizing" what is true for all the models on that page, including 14.1s. Thanks!

Since you're new here, reading the FAQ would be a good idea. You'd find things like Item #16.
