TP 600X screen goes blank

#1 Post by Olde Man » Sat Aug 03, 2013 8:10 pm

TP 600X SE98/Linux Mint 8

Intermittently, the screen goes black, hitting ENTER lights it back up again. Happens in both Linux and SE98. So far, I have not lost any work. At the same time, the SE98 suddenly refused to quit on command, have to pull the plug. Coincidence? Or connection. GOOGLE was not helpful

None of this is conducive to a tranquil mind.

Any suggestions?

This occurred while I was on vacation. Continued for about 10 days so I thought I was really into something. Got back home and it seems to have gone away. Apparently, the quality of the electricity in the upper Midwest did not meet the TP standard. :?

I would guess it was humidity related. Virginia is more humid and static electricity is less prevalent than in the drier states.
In 2004 when I took the family on a cross-country RV excursion, we took our (then new) laptop only to find it didn't like the dry weather found at high altitudes or in the desert. Sporadic restarts, random functions (like opening or closing a file, sudden and unwarranted offers to save a document, ect..) made us avoid using it "until I get home to deal with tech support".
as we traveled back into the eastern half, the thing settled down and functioned normally again.

Maybe it was Mark Twain's ghost not wanting anything to do with travel west of the Mississippi River?

Hmmmm! Maybe I will keep the humidifier off for a while during winter just as a test of this theory. Might be useful info.
