X60S has no Thinklight (edit: X60)
I recently got an X60S tablet (edit: it was an X60) with a 12.1'' screen and the Thinklight is not working...actually, I don't even see the LED at all! The specs on several sites state this unit came with one, so I'm thinking mine was broken off. There are icons on the keys for the Thinklight.
Anyway to replace this, or did this model not have a Thinklight?

Re: X60S has no Thinklight
According to the Personal Systems Reference guides (aka, tabook) from that era, both X60 Tablet and X61 Tablet models do not come with the ThinkLight.

Thanks for that...that confirms the sinking feeling I had when I first tried to turn it on...what a letdown! Bad Lenovo, bad!

Lenovo says it has a ThinkLight, but I assure you it does not! http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product ... MIGR-62845rkawakami wrote:According to the Personal Systems Reference guides (aka, tabook) from that era, both X60 Tablet and X61 Tablet models do not come with the ThinkLight.
Sloppy, huh?
Also, a review of the machine from 2006 said it had a ThinkLight: http://www.cnet.com/laptops/lenovo-thin ... 86426.html
Maybe early review versions did have the light...

Re: X60S has no Thinklight
Ahh, careful here. I believe that we were talking about a Tablet. While it was originally written as an X60S in the first post and subject line, I just ignored the "S" and assumed that we were talking about an X60T.
The regular X60s (non-tablet) DOES have a ThinkLight. I'm looking at one right now. The links you provided are about an X60s (again, non-tablet). I don't have any X6 series tablets so I'm only going by what's written in the tabook.

Re: X60S has no Thinklight
Hmm, seems I got it wrong then...I double checked and mine is an X60 - doh! It is a tablet. What screwed me up was that the seller had marked it as an X60S. Are the tablets usually marked with the T? (And, why in the homer simpson would they remove the ThinkLight??)rkawakami wrote:Ahh, careful here. I believe that we were talking about a Tablet. Lack of ThinkLight aside, it's a nice little machine, very solid build, fast, with some nice features like an SD card reader (and touch screen, of course). I think I'll put it in a docking station for home use as I find the keys a bit small, as is the screen - but it is very light and portable, so that's its plus, and purpose, for when I need to take it out.

Re: X60S has no Thinklight
My X41 tablet, which I've just fired up for the first time in about two years, is only marked as "X41". I don't believe that any of the X4 and X6 tablets had a nameplate on them that included a "T"; it's merely a marketing scheme.
It makes sense to me why they would not include a ThinkLight on a tablet, despite the keytop marking on the PgUp key, in that the screen rotates around two axes (instead of one). There's only one position the screen can be in to have a light useful enough to illuminate the keyboard.

Re: X60S has no Thinklight
My X60 Tablet and X61 Tablet do NOT have a Thinklight. Which makes sense. Any other Thinkpad I have, including 2 non-Tablet X60 and X61, both have a Thinklight.
Lenovo was not "sloppy" in their listing or description. The title of this thread is wrong.

I don't think it makes sense at all to not have a ThinkLight on tablets, after all they are made to be used as regular laptops, also.Cigarguy wrote:My X60 Tablet and X61 Tablet do NOT have a Thinklight. Lenovo was very sloppy to leave the ThinkLight keys on a unit that does not have a ThinkLight...not sure why you want to defend them so much. Work for them, perhaps?
And, I did say that I got the model number wrong, but that doesn't change the fact I just mentioned. Why you want to attack even the title of this thread tells something of you wanting to pick a fight...

Re: X60S has no Thinklight
^^ Yo relax dude. For me a Thinklight on a tablet would not be that useful as 1) I hardly use Thinklight, 2) Just another thing to cram into an already crowded cable run and 3) being that I use my tablets mainly in tablet mode, it does me no good. Hey but that's just me. If the Thinklight is something you use all the time, I can see where you could be annoyed if it's not there. But that doesn't change the fact that Lenovo and IBM before them decided not to put Thinklights into their tablet PCs.
Also, just because someone disagree with you doesn't mean they work for Lenovo. Go back and re-read any of my previous posts on what I think of new Thinkpads and where Lenovo is taking the Thinkpad brand in general. I don't like it, actually I hate it mainly because I love and have gotten used to their classic keyboards which I considered to be the best in a laptop. I love the old Thinkpads with the classic keyboard but would never buy anything newer.

Re: X60 has no Thinklight
Cigarguy,
I see we do agree on many things...mainly our love of the old TPs
It's that passion that can sometimes blind reason - witness my ever-growing TP collection!
Your points are taken and I have edited the title of this thread and my first post to avoid confusion.
And, yes, I was bummed that there was no ThinkLight on that X60, as it's something I really love about ThinkPads, and I do use it all the time on my other TP's. Them leaving the icons on the keys was insult to injury...Well, now I know.
Season's Greetings to you, and all (especially old ThinkPad lovers, everywhere!).
