Hi, I was one of the ones suffering the GPU problema time ago. It was solved using the reflow services of Nick in UK.
But just today, when it was working OK, suddenly the display showed a series of lines, White, black and finally it came to black....
The backlight is there and if I connect to a TV set using the S-Video connector, I can see the PC screen in the TV set, so, I'm not sure that it is again the GPU poroblem as I can see the display in the TV set. On the other hand, the invertir shouldn't be either, as the backlight is there. so, what could be the problem?
Thanks so much and regards.
Javier

Re: T42 display problem.... again
The GPU has two parts: Digital to display on the built-in LCD, and Analog to display on external screens (VGA and/or S-Video).
If Digital breaks down, Analog could still be working (or v.v.).
Try another screen if you have it.
If no difference, find another mobo or another laptop.
Nick no longer does the reballing.

Re: T42 display problem.... again
Hi, thanks for your answer....
It seems that it shoud be some kind of bad contact somewhere, because when I tried to connect today my T42 to a monitor using VGA, the T42 screen came again to life... At first with unstable displays, but after I unscrewed the keyboard and top of the laptop and unpressed and pressed all the connector I could find, it seems that it is still working (this post is being keyed using it...)
Hopefully it will work some more time, at least the time that I would need to get a new laptop (I'm looking for a second hand T500, for instance), even it will be a pity if I have to get down my T42 that is with me since I left IBM with my early retirement
Thanks again and kind regards....
P.S.: I sent a message to Nick and the anser was they are closed till September. Hope he is doing well....
