T42 strange problem, once shutdown cannot start again

#1 Post by wallacel » Tue Aug 06, 2013 12:58 am

As the title said, my T42 suddenly behaves very weird. After sitting for overnight, I can turn it on normally. But everytime after use and shutdown properly, it won't start up again, no lights at all when I press the power button. I tried both with/without battery slot in but still no success. The only way I can start it up again is to let it sit overnight, once started I can confirm all the hardware components are working fine.

Running WinXP with 1G ram, any suggestion to try?

*I am very impressed to see this forum is so active for such an old machine, thanks everyone to keep it alive.

Answering my own question.

The MB was dead completely, no readings from F2 fuse. I replaced it with a T43 MB and upgrade the CPU (2.1) and max out the ram to 2Gb, and my thinkpad is alive again.
