SMART short self test (error code) = ???

I got my t42 dxu this morning, and i began installing my software a few hours ago.

the laptop was working fine for a while and then programs began hanging up. if one hung, all the others would start to as well.

i ran the short version of the hard drive test on pc-doctor, and this is what FAILED:
device hts726060m9at00 (my hard drive, i presume) - SMART short self test (error code)

i plan on calling ibm tomorrow, but i was wondering if anyone could offer any words of wisdom.

Hi! You can try this to determine if your hard disk is giving you some problems.

hours of phone calls later...
IBM help support conclusion:

they're sending me a new hard drive, recovery discs, and software discs.

i should be getting the hard drive by monday; the discs, i should receive by tuesday or wednesday.
