X61 Stylus problem (amended question)
X61 Stylus problem (amended question)
To those that read before, apologies, written in a hurry.
My X61 tablet is working well with after fitting a new hinge. Highly recommended to anyone to open and replace if your old hinge breaks, as its quite straightforward.
One major problem is the stylus no longer exits on pressing. On opening the x61 itself, the mechanism seems to work, using a small screwdriver - in to catch and in again to release, but when you use the stylus its catching but not then releasing the stylus again.
When it broke there was a small back rectangle/square of plastic in my hand, no idea where that came from.
Any ideas anyone.
James

Re: X61 Stylus problem
Man your writing is hard to understand.
But if I read you right, you are saying that the stylus holder/eject mechanism don't work properly after you've opened the laptop to replace the hinges? If so I suspect you broken the ejection mechanism within the stylus holder when you open the laptop.
On the X60T/X61T, you have to remove the stylus first before you open up the laptop, otherwise you'll break the stylus holder.
This happened to me once. This is what I did to fix it. I took the broken "small back rectangle/square" that you are talking about, taped it back together with the stylus holder, make sure everything is properly aligned and put everything carefully back together. So far everything seems to be working fine.

Oh so the plastic square is actually useful, I threw it away.
Oh well, will have to see if i can figure out something, maybe a piece of hardwood.
Where exactly does the plastic square go on the stylus holder?
Many thanks for your reply too, I often post on forums and recently no one ever replies, again thanks

Re: X61 Stylus problem (amended question)
This thread seems a bit confused. But I think that I know what is going on. Because it is happening to me.
There is a little plastic rectangle on the stylus itself. This is the button that has the same effect as a mouse's right button. It seems to be fragile: many break (according to google).
When the stylus button breaks and falls off, the docking mechanism for the stylus no longer works: you cannot eject the stylus.
I understand that you have to partially disassemble the X61t to get the stylus out. And then buy another stylus. Perhaps you can jury-rig a fix to the stylus. I have my little plastic rectangle, but a tiny tab has broken.
After-market (non-Lenovo) styli seem to be as low as US$10. I have no idea if they are any good.
This looks like a useful thread: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-Ta ... td-p/33089

Re: X61 Stylus problem (amended question)
thanks Hugh, very useful.
Thinking of investing in a X200, so maybe a new stylus, for my old x61, is in order before I commit to it.
Thanks again.

OT: I always thought Swansea was in Wales. Is there one in England too? (We have an area in Toronto called Swansea.)

Re: X61 Stylus problem (amended question)
Swansea is in Wales.
Wales is part of the UK, as are England, Scotland (but only for a few more years, until they regain their independence) and Northern Ireland (which might eventually, but probably unlikely, join the Irish republic).
Calling your home country England is technically incorrect (especially if you live in Wales) and should be UK (or Wales in your case), but accepted, since most people don't know the difference between England and UK anyway.
