T420s Self Motherboard Upgrade: PRODUCT ID is 4170-CTO!?

#1 Post by skinnersbane » Fri Aug 16, 2013 1:47 pm

I was under the impression that on CTO machines the Machine Type might be XXXX-CTO, but that the PRODUCT ID would not be XXXX-CTO, but rather some variant indicator.

I am going to program the product ID and serial number into the EEPROM. The old motherboard had 4170-CTO stored as the PRODUCT ID in the EEPROM. How does System Update know what hardware the machine has? Should I just use the same PRODUCT ID? Or, should I find an appropriate MTM in the tabook?

Thanks.

Given the warranty info from the other thread, use the old numbers - whatever they are...

Should I try to copy the UUID over?

And, secondly, I was under the impression that the PRODUCT ID shouldn't be XXXX-CTO (even the HMM seems to say this). Am I incorrect?
