R60 recovery disk issues.
I bought a R60 which wasnt supposed to come with a hdd, but it did, and a 6 disk pack (R&R + 5 disk) from lenovo.
I install R&R and tell it to restore to factory contents without saving any files or recovering documents. It will start, and about 30 minutes later give me a error 23:data error, "cyclic redundancy check", then after clicking ok, it asks me to insert disk 2, which after about 30 minutes, does the same thing, all the way through disk "4", then it reboots, at this point it does not matter if I have disk 4 or disk 5 in the drive, it takes a bit longer to boot to R&R (says waiting for services to load). It will act like its copying some files over and then say "unable to locate X:\preboot\utils\convert.cmd" and then closes. Any attempt to restart the restore process causes the convert.cmd error to appear about 10 seconds after it starts, and R&R has to be reinstalled to get it to restore again. Setting hard drive to compatibillity mode/ ahci mode does not affect this.
I'm assuming its a dud disk set or a dud dvd drive, any help?

Re: R60 recovery disk issues.
If the R&R disks are ones the previous owner burned, they could well be defective (a bad burn), but if they are factory pressed disks, it's much less likely that they are bad. I would first run DBAN or similar, to zero fill the hard drive and remove any remnants of whatever was previously installed. Then try running the R&R process again.

Re: R60 recovery disk issues.
No I ordered the disks directly from lenovo, oem disks. But they are in fact bad, I tried copying them and got errors on 3 disks with the same files that the thinkpad errored out on. Tisk-Tisk lenovo quality -1 again for me.Neil wrote:If the R&R disks are ones the previous owner burned, they could well be defective (a bad burn), but if they are factory pressed disks, it's much less likely that they are bad.
