Wow, I ordered with the free UPS shipping option and it took less than 12 hours to make it from HONG KONG to LOUISVILLE, KY, US. Scanned at 5pm. UPS has some notice about an "EXCEPTION" for a special "CUSTOMS DELAY" though. I hope it's not delayed too long. I need this bad.

My T42 was delayed as well through Custom. But just took one more day. So, I am happy.

IBM or in this case Lenovo ships UPS 2 Day Air as the standard free shipping choice. Both my T42 from November and my T43p from a few weeks ago shipped from Hong Kong and made it to me in 2 days.

Hi Rocketman,
Which T43p model do you have?
Also, what are your thoughts on it, now that you have used it a bit?
Thanks!

Same thing with me...apparently its a shipment of over 200 machines (so UPS told me). I've been calling IBM about this for the past 2 days, but apparently its not that unusual. They said it can take up to 3 days, so I'm still hoping I'll get it by Friday...

what the heck my order has the same delays, i contacted my sales rep and ups just a minute ago, i hope they'll give me some good answers... but i still wonder why have we all gone through this problem :?:

i wish since i waited for more than 2 weeks for my system and got denied a free shipping upgrade request (not like you all lucky) they'd (either ibm/lenovo or ups) upgrade my shipping anyways for a faster method.

i wonder if its possible to request ups to upgrade the shipping and then pay' em the difference :?:

Here's another wacky UPS update. This is for a Certified Used T23 I ordered with overnight delivery to tide my company over until our T42/X32 order shows up next month:

May 11, 2005
10:25 P.M.

RALEIGH, NC, US - ORIGIN SCAN

May 12, 2005
2:52 A.M.

RALEIGH, NC, US

SHIPPER REQUESTED UPS TO ACCEPT PACKAGE AFTER 1 DAY CUT-OFF TIME AND ACCEPTS 1 DAY DELAY IN TRANSIT TIME TO DESTINATION.

7:30 A.M.

RALEIGH, NC, US

THE PACKAGE IS DELAYED AT THE ORIGIN HUB;FORWARDED TO THE FACILITY IN THE DESTINATION CITY

So IBM "missed the truck" so to speak and UPS denied them .

T43 Just came in From HK today. Screen Resolution Problem

#14 Post by jeeyo » Fri May 13, 2005 5:12 pm

Hi All,

Am a new User. I just got the T43 266872U. Problem is that the screen set at 1400 X 1050 pixels is making my eyes hurt with the tiny sizes of all the objects. When I bumped it down to 1024 X 768, the size was great but is was super blurry. What I dont understand is that I have a t40 also that is a 1028 XGA (max) and is much clearer then this one even when I set it to 1028 (XGA type). I dont know what to do here. Should I just go for one of the R models with the regular XGA 1028 display.

Someone please help

Thanks

Dave.

LCD screens look best at its native resolution. Changing SXGA+ to XGA will make things blurry.
Instead of changing the screen resolution. Go to Properties -> Settings-> Advanced and change the DPI setting to Large size (120 DPI). You will like this a lot better.

HI

thanks,

I tried that before and put it to large- but on websites it makes no difference in size. I spend alot of time on websites and on spreadsheets, ill go blind i think. Do you think its wise to get an XGA instead? Doesnt anyone else find it difficuilt to use?

Did you try changing the text size on websites? I believe its under 'View' in IE and Firefox.

Which browser do you use? If you use Firefox (www.mozilla.org), you can toggle the font size with ctrl+, ctrl-.
Your spreadsheet fonts should have been sized up with the DPI settting changed.

I don't have any problems using the SXGA+ on a 14" display with DPI set to 120.

Hi,

Thanks again, but the screen for IE enlarges only certain text- making it look unproportionate. The increased DPI solves the text in spreadsheets etc. Like this website doesnt change in size if you increase the text size to large or larger.

I wonder if the SXGA 1280 with H/V aspect ratio 5/4 would be better?

Use Firefox, the text for this forum changes size with ctrl+/ctrl-.

No, SXGA on SXGA+ will still be blurry.

So its better to stick to this than to get an IBM with simple XGA? Like maybe a T or an R series. I waited nearly 4 weeks for this. I also got a gig or RAM-geez im depressed!!

It's your personal preference. If you don't like it, then exchange it, but give it a try first. You just may need to tweak it to your liking. Many people who adapted to SXGA+ will not go back to XGA. Some people just plain prefer XGA.

With SXGA+, you are exchanging slightly smaller text for bigger desktop area and smoother and crisper text. There is some more information in this thread:
