ugly white spot on LCD cover - how to remove it

#1 Post by Pawelek » Sat Aug 17, 2013 5:09 pm

Hi,

One of our T61 (bought as second hand one) has an ugly "white" stain on LCD cover - almost in the middle of it -maybe from cigarrete ash? Is there any way to resolve that issue - I know that I cant restore the rubberized surface but maybe there is some sort of paint I can use to gently repair that mark.
T40 and T43 on bookshelf, t61 sxga+ x3100 + T8100 (Mum), t61 sxga+ x3100 t9300 and t420s i5 (mine toys :D), R500 P8400 (sister)

Some ideas/research:

None of these really address touching up the damage, but have to do with refinishing.

You might be able to remove the discoloration without repainting. I had three pretty noticeable white stains on the back of the LCD assembly I just bought. I used lens wipes containing a mild solvent (isopropyl alcohol). It took two or three tries. The wipes didn't appear to damage the rubberized finish, but they did completely eliminate the staining.

I don't think it was cigarette ash here, maybe correction fluid or perhaps non-dairy coffee creamer. At any rate, maybe it will help make the stain you have less noticeable.

Have a good day!

edit: changed third link, added some commentary
