T23 a slight hum
T23 a slight hum
I my T23 has 10 years, and every so often I hear a slight hum. I would like to know if this has already happened to some of you. And if so can you tell me on what does.
Re: T23 a slight hum
Likely fan or hard drive. They are both mechanical devices, they wear with age and become noisy, so it is normal that they hum
In the case of a fan, it is possible that the oil in its motor is drying up. SOME fans can be disassembled (without damage), in which case you should be able to clean out the old oil and drop in new. Thats something i commonly do with desktop pc fans, less with laptop fans (many of them are not possible to pull apart without breaking), and i dont know if the T23 fan is possibe to pull apart or not
Cleaning the air ways around the fan and generally in the computer improve cooling, so among benefits to computer life/reliability reduce the time or power (depends on the laptpo design) which the fan is working. In many newer laptops where there is a heatsink in front of the fan, the most severe dust accumulation is on the heatsink fins (often completely blocking them. In the T20 i have i see directly the fan when peeking in (no heatsink in front) but still best open and see if here is severe dust anywhere

Re: T23 a slight hum
Less likely, but still a chance that an inductor on the system board is emitting the hum. Check pics in this thread for the location of the inductors:
