T42/T43 not shutting down when lid closed

#1 Post by Ken Edmonds » Thu Aug 22, 2013 12:21 pm

My T42 I rebuilt with an R52 motherboard, so it's a sort of T43, is working perfectly and I'm really pleased. The only thing that doesn't work is going into standby when I close the lid. I can't even see how the switch is supposed to work. Am I likely to have missed something? I can use XP to put it in standby so I'm pretty sure it's how I put it back together.

There's a setting in BIOS that affects this, look for it, I believe it's under "configuration", make sure it's not set to "do nothing"...

Report back and we'll take it from there.

Thanks for the quick reply.
It's quite possible as I hadn't checked the BIOS. I'm off out in literally a couple of minutes but I'll check when I get back in a few hours.

Bum - that's not it. It's set to Suspend when LCD lid is closed.

Touch the button with the tip of the pen and see what happens. The switch itself might be dysfunctional.

Already tried that - nothing. I took the bezels off again to check and I can't actually see how the switch is supposed to work. I can see the fixture riveted to the keyboard surround but what does it press on? All I've got is a plate above the LCD connector.

I think that your problem is right there. Can't pull the bezel off my own T43p right now but there should be a piece corresponding by "rising" from the board...

That's basically the conclusion I'd come to. I don't want to take the bezel off my T43 either.
I'll look through the box of leftover bits to see if there's two of anything and also see if I can identify what's missing in the HMM.

R52 and T4x have the on/off switch (on the LCD-cable) in a different position.
If you use a T4x LCD cable in your T4x it should work, with an R52 cable it won't.

Genius! I've just looked at the screen I didn't use and I can see the switch which is missing on the other one which explains why I couldn't see how it worked. I'm not stripping the whole thing down again just to change the cable so I'll just live with it. Now I know why I don't mind and Fn+F4 works so no hardship.

Thanks - this forum's great!
