The original screen I planned to use ended up not being compatible (LED vs CFL) so i ordered an identical screen to the one in the X120E off ebay. Got it today and did the swap in under ten minutes.
Two bugs: Brightness under 5 equals minimum (Display is set to the normal 1-10 instead of the IBM/Lenovo 1-15 brightness setting.) and it takes a few seconds longer to boot. The latter is consistent with other Thinkpads that use non IBM/Lenovo displays. I assume it does not recognise the non IBM/Lenovo spec display and tries to boot off HDMI and VGA before defaulting to the internal display. Bios settings generally do nothing. Noticed this on other Thinkpads as well.
I apologize for the photo quality. I'm running an experimental kernel on my mobile, which just happened to be my only digital camera.

Specs:
AMD E350 APU @ 1.6ghz
8GB DDR3 ram
120GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD
Windows 7 Pro x64
Once I can get a hold of a whitelisted bios I will install a WWAN card or a BCM HD decoder, we'll see which one.
Thanks tbessie, I owe you one! You saved my bacon (my travel computer died two day ago). If I'm ever in the neighbourhood, drinks are on me.
