Cleaning external enclosure

#1 Post by pat » Fri Jun 18, 2004 9:18 am

Well, my room mate thought it would be funny to put some bumper stickers on my X40, and now that I've removed them, I can still see the outline of them, but there's nothing to touch.

How would I clean this? I also have some small scratches on it too I would like to clean.

Thanks.

You can try a small amount of none alkaline soap and water and a soft cloth or sponge
Also a 50/50 Isopropyl alcohol and water can be used.

If you want a solution that can be purchased... Office depot and the like sell Pledge for electronics (can only be purchased at the office supply store) it works very well on the whole notebook for cleaning it is very gentle no harsh chemicals.

And I would make your "Friend" pay for it.

I use Meguiars Natural Shine (see the automotive section) sprayed onto a a cloth and wipe down the surface. It was a recommendation from the old forums and doesn't leave streaks, any residue, or make the laptop look "shiny." It always returns my laptop to looking exactly like it was when it first arrived. It also seems to help the rubberized cover a little by "eliminating" scratches-- but be warned, you'll suddenly realize how dirty the outside gets cleaning with this (I realized mine was quite grimey after I looked at the diaper cloth I used to wipe it down)

Goo Gone works too.

if you let it soak, it gets rid of most of the glue residue with a little rubbing.

Are you sure that it's dirt it is removing and not the finish.

Yup, quite sure. It was brown like dirt (grime), not black and the finish of the area rubbed was perfectly intact (except now clean)

Marvelous stuff.
