Loose Hinges on 570

#1 Post by asiafish » Wed May 11, 2005 11:18 am

Anyone have a tear-down guide or other instructions for tightening the hinges on a ThinkPad 570? A fried at work has an otherwise very nice one that I can buy for almost nothing, but the hinges are extremely loose (they work, but only barely support the weight of the display, which shuts at a very light touch.

Thanks in advance.

Get the HMM for the 570 series, but AFAIK the hinges can't be tightened, only replaced.

Where can I get the HMM, and are replacement hinges expensive? I really like the size and weight of this machine for my wife, who only really needs basic email, browsing and word processing. The 570 (PII 366, 192 ram) with Windows 2000 and Office 2003 would likely do a bang-up job at those tasks.

As to where to get the hinges, you can check with IBM parts, but I'd check eBay first.
